Work with one of Australias most respected government science agencies the Antarctic Division. Youll lead the revamp of their WHS documentation, mostly working from home with short monthly visits to their Kingston office, near Hobart. Its a long-term, well-paid contract using AI tools to simplify complex safety systems. A rare, career-defining opportunity.
- Requires: Expertise in WHS & ISO 45001:2018, advanced use of AI in writing workflows, and technical writing skills and Australian Citizenship
- Salary guide: $900 $1300 per day, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Location: Southern Tasmania.
Your normal day will involve:
- Providing technical writing services to assist with the revision of the AAD's Safety Management System.
- Reviewing existing documents and assessing complex technical subject matters.
- Producing documents in plain English targeting a reading age of 14.
- Developing standardized templates for Safety Standards, Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Guidelines.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts and participating in iterative reviews until final submissions.
This contract role will immerse you within a federal government body that plays a vital role in Antarctic operations. You'll be embedded in the WHS team, where your writing will directly contribute to enhancing safety standards. Remote work flexibility is available, with occasional travel to Kingston, Tasmania for meetings that add value to your role. Youll collaborate closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts, ensuring your work is both impactful and supported by those who understand the technical complexities involved.

You will need:
The anticipated skill level is senior to expert level specifically targeted at highly specialised professionals with both technical writing expertise and WHS system knowledge. This is not an entry- or mid-level role. The role is for an equivalent APS 6 or EL1.

Minimum level expected
An APS 6 (Senior technical officer or analyst): Works under limited direction. Handles complex tasks, stakeholder engagement, and documentation.
An EL1 (Expert specialist or project lead): Operates independently, manages stakeholders, contributes strategic input. Strong influence over delivery outcomes. This is the Ideal/Target level for this contract if the rate displays value for money to the Government.
