Manager Work, Health and Safety
Remuneration: A nnual salary of $185-200K TRP inclusive of superannuation and vehicle allowance.

Role Overview
The Work, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for leading the Gympie Regional Council’s comprehensive WHS programs, ensuring legislative compliance, managing WHS risks, and driving injury prevention and return-to-work strategies.
This role oversees safety performance, incident investigations, and the implementation of wellbeing initiatives to foster psychosocial safety and worker wellness.
A key focus is embedding a safety-first culture by taking a collaborative approach to ensure effective policies, procedures, systems and services are in place that provide and maintain the highest level of WHS awareness, capability, and compliance across all of the Council’s operations to achieve a safe and healthy workplace for all.
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
- Tertiary qualification (AQF 7 or higher) in Work Health & Safety or related field, and/or significant experience in WHS or related discipline; and relevant to the role’s responsibilities and key performance areas.
- Substantial and proven experience in providing high level strategic and operational advice on compliance to relevant WHS, rehabilitation and compensation legislation within an organisation with multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and implement safety and wellbeing solutions in a complex environment aligned with strategic objectives, and to deliver aligned organisational wide culture programs and initiatives.
- High level communication skills with the ability to establish partnerships internally and externally and influence others with a diverse range of stakeholders to increase awareness, engagement, and collaboration in the effective implementation of safety and wellbeing frameworks.
- Ability to think strategically, recognise issues and use initiative to identify and implement solutions.
- Experience leading a safety and wellbeing team, including performance management and professional development.
- Ability to influence and drive a strong safety-first culture across the organization.
- Proven experience in leading change management initiatives related to safety and wellbeing.
- Proficiency in WHS management systems, reporting tools, and digital platforms for safety and wellbeing tracking.
- Licensed ICAM Investigator and experience conducting workplace safety inspections, investigations and audits
- Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence that is current and maintained.
- Construction Industry White/Blue card.
