WaterNSW is seeking an experienced Manager Risk, Compliance & Audit on a Full-Time Permanent basis to lead WaterNSW in the key corporate governance areas of Risk, Compliance, Assurance and Internal Audit.

About the Role:

WaterNSW is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manager Risk, Compliance & Audit to lead and drive our enterprise-wide risk management, internal audit, compliance, and assurance functions.

Reporting directly to the Chair of the Board Audit and Risk Committee and the Chief Financial Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effective management of risk across the organisation while fostering a culture of compliance, assurance and continuous improvement via the Internal Audit function.

You will lead key strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing key corporate governance frameworks, oversee the delivery of the annual internal audit plan, work closely with senior leadership, and provide expert advice on risk, internal controls, compliance, business continuity and assurance. What you ’ll do:

  • Leadership: Drive strategic priorities centred on enhancing key governance frameworks and fostering a culture of performance, customer service, capability, and safety within the team.
  • Risk Management: Provide expert recommendations on risk parameters, further develop current frameworks and processes to assess, mitigate, and manage enterprise-wide risks, influence and guide business led risk assessments and lead continuous improvements.
  • Internal Audit: Lead and manage the development and implementation of risk based internal audit programs and management requested reviews and investigations, manage relationship with co-source providers, provide proactive advice, and create value through audit recommendations that improve business processes.
  • Compliance & Assurance: further develop existing frameworks for enterprise compliance management and monitor material and systemic non-compliance to legislation and regulations and key internal controls.
  • External Audits: Assess the outcomes of audits conducted by regulators and other external parties (outside the internal audit plan) and report on emerging risks and trends.
  • Business Continuity: further develop and implement framework enhancement for managing business continuity management and implement processes for monitoring effectiveness of exercise programs. Disaster recovery and incident management.
  • Stakeholder management ; Develop and implement processes within the team that provide effective collaboration, consultation and communication with internal customers, the executive leadership team and the Board.
  • Reporting: Provide accurate, insightful, and timely reports on risk, internal audit compliance and business continuity activities and plans to influence decision making , risk mitigation and continuous improvement.

Key Challenges:

  • Driving the business mindset to focus on efficiency, commerciality, and continuous improvement.
  • Enhancing the business understanding of risks and opportunities and supporting frameworks, including but not limited to Risk Appetite Statements.
  • Building and maintaining trust and engagement within the business and the Board Audit and Risk Committee to ensure Risk, Internal Audit and Compliance functions are effective and viewed as valuable partners.
  • Maintaining agility and adaptability in work processes, ensuring the delivery of fit-for-purpose governance frameworks.
  • Ensuring relevance and maintaining alignment of activities and recommendations to strategic priorities.

What we are looking for / Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications to a degree level.
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., CPA, CIA, CRMA, etc.).
  • A current NSW Driver’s Licence.
  • Proven experience at a senior level in corporate risk and compliance environments and developing organisational-wide audit programs.
  • Strong influencing and relationship management and communication skills, with experience working at all levels of an organisation.
