Kensington Community Children's Co-operative (KCCC) is a parent managed co-operative offering long day care and kindergarten in the heart of Kensington, Melbourne. KCCC specialises in high-quality early learning programs in close partnership with families, schools, and the community and is rated as Exceeding National Quality Standards . As a business, the centre turns over more than $6 million per year and employs approximately 78 staff, including casual relief staff. KCCC is licensed for 166 places, including sessional and integrated kindergarten groups.
About the position:
The General Manager position is the senior leadership role in the organisation, reporting to the Board of Directors. Your job is to lead our staff in the provision of excellent early years programs, ensure the effective and efficient operation of KCCC, bring to life KCCC’s Strategic Plan, and lead and engage our family community.
Partnering with the Board, you will take KCCC into the future where our children and families develop to their full potential.
The primary responsibilities include making day to day operational decisions, people management, financial management, overseeing governance and compliance, and driving the workforce and resources of KCCC. You will act as the main point of communication between the Board of Directors, staff, parents/caregivers, and a variety of other stakeholders. It is a busy environment, so you must be able to prioritise what needs to be done, think on your feet and be able to make decisions quickly. Relationship Building is paramount as well as the ability to run the entire Service, with the assistance of the leadership, admin and educator teams. This role acts as a Person with Management Control for the purposes of the National Laws and Regulations.
The role will require an active and engaged presence on-site, although reasonable flexibility will be supported.
About you:
We are seeking an experienced, resilient individual who will provide strong, committed leadership, support our staff to grow their professional skills, and provide a progressive and efficient working environment.
You will be suitably qualified and have proven experience in a similar role in the Early Childhood sector, including the following:
- A qualification in Early Childhood Education and Care.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of recent and continuous experience in a Centre Manager, Centre Director, Area Manager, or General Manager in a long daycare setting.
- Strong knowledge of the National Quality Framework and Early Years Learning Framework.
- Working knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations.
- Working knowledge of integrated child and family services.
- Substantial knowledge of governance procedures and practices.
- Working knowledge of statutory guidelines, policies, and requirements relating to early childhood education and care, not-for-profit cooperative, and Australian business law.
- Working with Children Check or Approved Victorian Institute of Teaching Registration.
- Approved First Aid, Asthma, and Anaphylaxis training.
- Sound working knowledge of Child Safe Standards.
- Extensive experience with financial systems and managing $3 million + budgets.
- Working with a Board of Directors/Management Committee (desirable).
- Proven high-level probity, accountability, and managing conflicts of interest.
- Demonstrated ability to review, develop, and implement improved systems and processes to enhance organisational efficiency and quality.
