Position overview
The Agency Security Advisor reports to the Chief Information Security Officer. The position plays an important role in safeguarding the Bureau's customers, systems, personnel and facilities, ensuring compliance with Australian Government's Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
The role involves leading, building capability, and delivering the Bureau's protective security operations and incident management, with a focus on security governance and training, personnel security and physical security matters. It is responsible for leading a small team for assessing security enquiries from across the Bureau and providing risk-based advice, as well as developing and maintaining efficient security processes, workflows and records. It requires developing and maintaining key relationships to negotiate, influence and coordinate across other Bureau teams, and will regularly liaise with security vetting services.
The role requires an authoritative and in-depth understanding of the Protective Security Policy Framework and requires experience in the practical application and implementation of the PSPF in an Australian Government Agency. It provides strategic advice and issues management to the CISO and Chief Security Officer. The role is responsible for anticipating and establishing priorities and monitoring progress and work to deliver the required outcomes of the team such as coordinating and implementing security procedures, training, communication, reporting and providing advice across a range of PSPF domains.
The role contributes to the effective implementation and delivery of the Bureau's security plan and will be trusted to take ownership of designated security maturity improvement actions. It includes staff supervision responsibilities such as developing, coaching and mentoring employees, performance management, conflict resolution, and identification of training of protective security advisors.
