About the role
The Planning and Policy Coordinator will be the City's leading expert in waste planning, responsible for ensuring developments maximise resource recovery opportunities through smart, innovative and sustainable design by delivering technical advice, developing and implementing key waste policies & keeping abreast of the latest innovations in waste storage design and collection infrastructure.
The Coordinator will work within the Resource Recovery Team, closely with the Planning Development and Transport division and other key stakeholders to ensure buildings are built to achieve the City's residential waste targets which commit to:
• Reducing waste generation per capita by 15% by 2030;
• Diverting 90% of residential waste (35% as source separated recycling) away from landfill by 2030.
The successful candidate will have:
• Tertiary qualifications in environmental management, urban planning, architecture or a related discipline and extensive relevant knowledge and experience;
• Well-developed knowledge of, and a high level of experience with, waste management and resource recovery issues in the built environment including relevant experience in planning, development, architecture, construction and/or waste industries
• Extensive experience developing and implementing policy, applying relevant legislation to achieve resource recovery outcomes and assessing development applications against waste planning controls
• Demonstrated experience fostering relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes and extensive experience negotiating, resolving conflict and reconciling competing interests
• Holds a valid class C drivers licence

This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 19-day month.
