The Role
Jump into your new career with Midwifery at John Hunter Hospital! Affectionately known as “The Mothership”, John Hunter Hospital is the centralised point for a wide range of maternity and birthing services. It is the leading health facility in Newcastle and supports all levels of complex midwifery and birthing services. As one of our new graduate Midwives, you will rotate through our entire service to get a feel for the different aspects of midwifery including birthing suites, postnatal, antenatal care and midwifery group practice. You will get to undertake the entire scope of practice for a midwife, enjoying the ability to gain hands-on experience in all facets of midwifery.
You won’t be working alone. Education and ongoing training are pillars of this position, and you will be provided support by the senior Midwives, the Midwifery Unit Managers (MUM’s), the Team Leader. There are core education teams in each area which provide targeted, appropriate education as well as set study days to help you work towards your career goals. This is a Category A position. All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (AIR Immunisation History Statement) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of COVID-19 vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement (IHS), or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate, or AIR COVID-19 and Influenza IHS. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
