Your Role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital
You will promote safe, rational and cost-effective drug therapy by providing pharmacy services including the provision of drug information to patients and caregivers. Act as a patient and hospital advocate in providing optimal cost-effective treatment consistent with hospital, government (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme) and health fund requirements.
The Position

Ensure that the prescribing of all medication conforms to legal, hospital and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme requirements and that such prescribing is clearly understood by all personnel.

Dispense and ensure charging and crediting for drugs are in accordance with Hospital policy, the requirements of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, and relevant health fund arrangements.

Liaise with Patient Accounts, clarify pharmacy charges with patients and check medical records when patients believe changes are incorrect.

Liaise with medical, nursing and other health professionals, to provide drug information, and promote rational cost-effective drug therapy.

Counsel patients on their medication when appropriate.

Organise and dispense appropriate medications, compliance aids, including computer generated Consumer Medicine Information.

Develop and participate in education programs for pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists, 4th year pharmacy students, nursing, medical and other allied health caregivers.

Attend and participate in departmental meetings and continuing education meetings.

Understand and interpret the PBS including Section 100 drugs and private health insurance issues.

Understand and interpret relevant Section 100 and SAS legislation including access, supply, monitoring and documentation.

Have an appropriate knowledge of equal employment opportunity and occupational safety and health principles pertinent to the position.

Undertake any duties assigned by the Pharmacy Coordinator (Inpatient Services), other Pharmacy Coordinators, or Chief Pharmacist commensurate with the position of a pharmacist.

Carry out extemporaneous manufacturing and dispensing in compliance with departmental policies and the Society of Hospital Pharmacists’ Standards of Practice.

Undertake training and duties of specialised dispensing, i.e. aseptic dispensing and cytotoxic dispensing as required.

Undertake training and duties of a clinical pharmacist as required according to the Pharmacy Department’s Clinical Pharmacy Orientation Handbook.

Assist with inventory control by documenting items that require ordering, and follow established stock rotation procedures.

Record all movement of Schedule 8 drugs in Drug Registers consistent with relevant State Government Legislation.

Assist with the supervision of Pharmacy Technicians assigned to the area.

Supervise 4th year pharmacy students and pre-registration pharmacy students as appropriate.
You will hold current registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia and have a demonstrated involvement in continuing education and training programs and a commitment to continual professional development. You will possess the knowledge necessary to provide pharmacy services to patients and other health professionals in a hospital environment.

Salary : $83,078 to $116,631 (pro rata for part time), plus 11.5% superannuation

Casual rate: $52.38 to $73.54 (inclusive of casual loading) plus 11.5% superannuation
