Your role at St John of God Midland Hospital

The Pastoral Services Manager will set the strategic direction of Pastoral services within the Hospital/Service and provide leadership and coordination to the team in the provision of holistic Pastoral services to patients and clients. This role will engage with other hospital/service caregivers to embed and integrate a contemporary model of pastoral care.

The Position

  • Lead and manage a team in addition to maintaining caseload duties (as determined at hospital/service level in consultation with GMPS),

  • Lead and manage complex strategic initiatives, impart vision, and engage with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Be actively involved in continuous improvement to align with NSQHS (National safety and quality standards), national and international Pastoral/Spiritual Care best practice.

  • Maintain comprehensive and integrated knowledge of broader issues affecting the pastoral service, such as government policies, the health system, structural and financial arrangements, and pastoral key performance indicators.

  • Track and review Pastoral database reports weekly and with team members monthly (minimum) to inform best practice, professional development opportunities, productivity and service development.

  • In consultation with the Director Mission Integration (DMI), provide advice regarding ethical matters and support decision making.

  • Coordinate ritual, liturgy, prayer, reflections e.g. Memorial Services, Pregnancy Loss rituals, respecting others cultural and religious beliefs and lead review and development of current practice.

  • In collaboration with Human Resources, implement caregiver/industrial relations policies, including managing disciplinary matters and grievances in accordance with group-wide and divisional policies, to ensure good caregiver relationships.

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant internal and external professional groups to build and enhance service delivery on a divisional and group-wide basis.

You will have completed a tertiary level qualification in a relevant field (such as Social Work, Counselling, Pastoral Theology, or Nursing) and possess a minimum of five years’ experience in the provision of pastoral care to people from a variety of faith, cultural and social backgrounds.

In addition, you will possess a demonstrated ability to effectively manage change, experience in the development and implementation of education and training of staff and a demonstrated ability to create a positive team culture, which supports the development of personal capabilities.

To succeed you will have high–level verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and deliver results, and flexibility with working hours, including the ability and preparedness to undertake evening/weekend shift/on call duties as required.
