The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest Council’s in NSW with the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities in Sydney. We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents.
The Role
In this role, you’ll be given the opportunity to make a real difference to the health of the Cooks River and its community, while helping to improve litter management practices by implementing novel solutions that will inform future NSW management practices and policy. As project lead, you’ll be given high autonomy to implement the Cooks River Litter Prevention Strategy and Roadmap. But you’ll also work within a tight-knit team of passionate professionals that you’ll be able to rely on for support.
Moreover, you’ll be given the opportunity to stress-test new ideas and develop new litter prevention practices and programs by working closely with litter prevention professionals within the Alliance’s partner organizations, the NSW Environment Protection Authority Litter Prevention Unit, and other stakeholders.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Lead the delivery and implementation of Cooks River Alliance Road Map.
Develop a Key Littered Items Accumulation Assessment program (Catchment Study) for the Cooks.
Continue to Build litter prevention capacity within the Cooks River Alliance Secretariat.
Coordination ongoing collaborative litter prevention between Cooks River Alliance Member Organisations to facilitate the directions and initiatives identified in the Cooks River Litter Prevention Road Map.
Identify / develop information and data streams for monitoring and reporting on Road Map implementation progress and litter prevention.
Develop and implement reporting mechanisms / formats for Road Map implementation and litter reduction for a range of audiences.
Advocate and champion for improved litter management and funding for the Cooks River Alliance member organisations, stakeholders, and community organisations.
Foster litter prevention partnerships that seek to identify gaps in litter prevention and tackle catchment wide issues

You will have:
Tertiary level qualifications or equivalent experience in the physical sciences, preferably the environmental sciences, environmental management, or environmental engineering.
Demonstrated experience in delivering strategic projects with a focus on litter prevention or related issues.
Demonstrated experience is setting up and executing in-situ data collection programs for litter (or similar) and developing analysis and reporting protocols accordingly, to inform and monitor management interventions.
A willingness and commitment to working collaborative across with government, commercial, and community organisations to address issues and solve problems
Demonstrable experience in managing grant funded projects.
Working knowledge of litter prevention policy and practice
Demonstrable project management skills
Ability to work collaborative in a small, flexible multidisciplinary team
Be adept in the use of Microsoft Office software.
The salary range for this opportunity commences at $101,423 (Grade H, Step1) Pro rata + 11.5 % super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
