Description:
PSD Energy is seeking a capable and driven Senior/Lead Primary Electrical Designer with extensive experience in high-voltage substations, switchyards, and utility-scale renewable energy projects. This role involves leading detailed electrical design drafting, managing drawing deliverables, and ensuring technical and regulatory compliance across multiple concurrent projects.
The Role
As a Senior/Lead Primary Electrical Designer, you will oversee the development of high-quality electrical drawings, including layouts, sections, and BOMs, while coordinating closely with engineering teams and stakeholders. You will also mentor junior drafters, lead drafting scopes, and help drive continuous improvement in design standards and practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver detailed primary electrical design drawings for HV substations, switchyards, BESS, and utility-scale renewable energy projects.
- Lead drafting scopes, manage drawing registers, and ensure timely and high-quality output across multiple concurrent projects.
- Develop and oversee general arrangements, grounding layouts, cable routing, terminations, sections, and BOMs.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders to align designs with technical, client, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level drafters, ensuring adherence to company and industry standards.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of drawing standards and practices.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in primary electrical drafting, preferably across high-voltage substation and transmission infrastructure.
- Expert proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Plant 3D or Revit is a strong advantage.
- Extensive understanding of Australian standards and utility specifications.
- Proven track record of leading drafting packages on large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and commitment to design quality.
- Experience in design leadership roles or ambition to step into a Lead Designer position.
