The Training and Development unit comprising of operational and non-operational staff within four teams - staff development, volunteer training development, volunteer training delivery, and resource development. The Volunteer Training Delivery function focuses on the design and implementation of the volunteer training strategies to operationalise the Rural Fire Development Framework, and associated training packages.Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for providing effective and efficient design, development and review of the volunteer training curriculum, working closely with stakeholders across Areas, Districts and Region to ensure they meet the needs of contemporary volunteer services. You will also provide advice and guidance into the review of the volunteer training development framework, and to volunteer trainers regarding the format and delivery of training courses and programs to ensure they are fit-for-purpose and compliant with industry standards.
About Us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.

Purpose of the role

Key requirements
Highly desirable requirements
- Hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent or can obtain the skill within a mutually agreed timeframe
- Knowledge of, or experience working with volunteers and/or within a volunteer organisation.
- The incumbent is expected to undertake and support operational duties during emergency and disaster operations. This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include deployment to other parts of the state.
Responsibilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Design, develop, evaluate and review of volunteer training curriculum content and materials to ensure currency and alignment with national competency frameworks.
- Support various volunteer training development projects and programs through involvement in planning, development, implementation, review and evaluation of project activities and initiatives.
- Apply contemporary adult education principles and methodologies to design the volunteer training curriculum and ensure compliance with registered training organisation (RTO) requirements.
- Design and develop interactive training products and content using contemporary e-Learning authoring tools for the delivery of current and relevant products and services.
- Research and interpret organisational policy, guidelines, doctrine, and industry competency standards to support and inform curriculum content.
- Assist in the review of correspondence, submissions, briefings, and reports relating to curriculum matters in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Liaise, consult, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure activities are delivered in a timely and efficient manner.
- Undertake research, analysis and provide advice for continuous improvement to the development of resources, to support the development and adherence to quality systems.
