This leadership opportunity places you at the heart of a high-performing team working on some of the most complex and sensitive people management challenges in the APS.
As Assistant Director, you’ll lead a small, dedicated team in the triage and management of a diverse range of conduct and performance matters. You’ll apply your expertise in a fast-paced, advisory environment and work directly with senior stakeholders to shape positive cultural and behavioural outcomes.
In this role, you will gain exposure to high-level decision-making and politically sensitive issues, providing an excellent platform to grow your leadership, strategic thinking, and case management capabilities. The role offers genuine scope to make a meaningful impact while supporting the continuous improvement of workplace practices across the agency.
The Role
As the EL1 Performance and Code of Conduct Case Manager, you will lead and manage complex people matters and performance issues.
Your key duties will include:
- Conduct complex investigations into suspected breaches of the APS Code of Conduct
- Coordinate and prepare briefs, reports, and reviews for senior executives
- Draft reports and recommendations with strategic and legislative insight
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and systems
- Contribute to regular reporting for executive leadership
- Develop and lead training initiatives on values, conduct, and behavioural standards
- Support section-wide and branch-level process improvement projects
- Provide advice on sensitive issues, including those with political considerations
You are a confident and capable HR or conduct professional with demonstrated experience managing complex people matters within the APS or a similar regulatory framework. You’ll bring sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and a calm, solutions-focused mindset when navigating workplace conflict, underperformance, or misconduct cases.
Your ability to lead and mentor a team, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation will be key to your success. You’ll also bring a forward-thinking, continuous improvement lens to your work, always looking for better ways to support a high-integrity, performance-focused culture. Experience managing politically sensitive or high-profile issues is highly regarded.
You will have a current Baseline clearance or the ability to obtain.
Salary / Rate
- $125k – $138k + Super
- 12 month non ongoing
