The Role
The duties of the Business Operations Assistant Director include the following:
- Perform complex procedural, operational, administrative and business management activities and tasks that support the delivery of outcomes across ASCA and Defence.
- Lead and deliver budget support and financial processing, including coordination of budget preparation, financial performance monitoring and reporting in accordance with Defence policies and procedures.
- Coordinate business support activities for the organisation, identify risks and determine appropriate course of action to meet stakeholder needs.
- Engage and negotiate with stakeholders on complex issues to achieve business outcomes.
- Identify and interpret relevant legislation, policies, strategies, business and team requirements and apply these.
- Work collaboratively, build and sustain effective relationships and provide constructive feedback.
- Manage and lead a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people.
- Demonstrate and apply the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to provide advice and services for a range of complex to very complex activities.
About our Team
The Business Operations Directorate supports and delivers critical internal functions to efficiently achieve organisational goals. The directorate is responsible for providing business support including complex personnel, physical and project security functions; human resource management and workforce planning; financial management support including budget preparation and financial performance monitoring and reporting, as well as infrastructure and facilities management.
The directorate coordinates these functions with other areas of Defence to support the breadth of its functions. The team is agile and works in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment. The team often faces unique problems and relies on innovative and creative problem-solving to meet stakeholder requirements.

ASCA is seeking an exceptional leader who is comfortably able to wear a variety of hats to manage a team that supports a fast-paced organisation. This role provides key support and direction across ASCA through the management of critical business taskings and implementation of business plans. To succeed in this role, you must be an excellent communicator, with demonstrated stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate will have experience in preparing and providing advice on complex financial policy to stakeholders. They will be able to apply financial and budgeting knowledge to undertake objective and systematic analysis to draw conclusions.
