Working as a Suicide Prevention and After Care in rural New South Wales
This position is permanent, full-time.
Our Client:
This is a wonderful opportunity to join NSW Aboriginal Medical Service who deliver direct services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in rural New South Wales. They are a Community Controlled Organisation and are also a NDIS service provider and community program provider.
Responsibilities include:
This position is responsible for participating and co-ordinating with a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of suicide prevention, and after care support to individuals and community in a clinical setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The key objectives of the role include:
- Ensure the delivery of suicide prevention support and care to the community and at risk individuals
- Provide holistic and culturally sensitive person-centred client screening in a clinical setting
- Plan and implement care components
- Provide Suicide prevention support in service design
Qualifications and Experience:
- Tertiary qualification is Social Work, Counselling or Psychology
- HLT40113 - Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or equivalent training and/or experience
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (consumer) or willingness to attain within 18 months of commencing position.
- Experience working in a community-based health or social support setting.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks
- Capacity to use person centered recovery-oriented and trauma-informed principles in providing support to people at risk of suicide.
- Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Client focused with an ability to advocate on the client behalf.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in computer software including electronic medical software and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Willingness to undertake further study as required.
- Current Drivers Licence, minimum Class "C"
- Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including the National Police Check and NSW Working with Children clearance (WWCC)
- First Aid Certificate
