What you will do

In the first 18-months, the Principal Clinician, Practice will work closely with the Adapted Interventions team who undertake offence-specific screening, assessment and intervention with service users who have cognitive impairment. The Principal Clinician, Practice will undertake a number of projects in order to update the Adapted Interventions pathway to align with current evidence-based practice and to acquit recommendations outlined in the Victorian Auditor-Generals Office (VAGO) review into ‘Correctional Services for People with Intellectual Disability or Acquired Brian Injury'. An external review outlined several areas where the Adapted Interventions pathway could be improved and updated to align with evidence-based best practice, including changes to offence-specific programs, further staff training, inclusion of treatment readiness and maintenance programs, updates to the assessment processes, and future considerations. The Principal Clinician will be required to develop individual project plans for the phases to ensure the appropriate level of oversight, approvals and governance are maintained throughout the concept, development and implementation stages of the broader project. The phased projects will require extensive updates to existing documentation, manuals and processes, and transitional activities.

After the first 18-months, the Principal Clinician, Practice will deliver assessments and both offence-specific and offence-related interventions for a complex caseload.

Approximately 70% of your workload will involve direct service delivery – including assessments and interventions – while the remainder will see you support research and evaluation efforts.

You will:

  • Provide high-quality supervision to senior forensic clinicians and other practitioners.
  • Enhance evidence-based practices through feedback and direct observation.
  • Advise on practice improvements and ensure service integrity.
  • Prepare reports and provide expert recommendations on complex cases and practices.
