Position: Horse Trainer – Breeding & Yearlings
Location: Young, NSW
Salary: $73,150+ per annum (full-time 38 hrs per week)
Watershed Farm & Bowness Stud is seeking a full-time Horse Trainer to join our team. This hands-on role involves the handling, education, and daily care of stallions, broodmares, foals, weanlings, and/or yearlings. We are looking for a reliable and experienced individual with a strong background in the thoroughbred breeding industry.
Key responsibilities may include:
• Educating young horses and broodmares, including handling and early training
• Preparing yearlings for sales, including parading and handling education
• Assisting with foaling and veterinary procedures
• Monitoring mare reproductive cycles and caring for newborn foals
• Supporting and training junior staff and maintaining high welfare standards
Essential Requirements:
• Minimum 3 years full-time experience specifically in a high-performance thoroughbred breeding or sales preparation environment
• Demonstrated experience foaling down mares and managing post-natal care independently
• Proven track record in preparing yearlings for major Australian sales (e.g., Inglis, Magic Millions)
• Hands-on experience assisting veterinarians with reproductive procedures
• Confident in leading and educating horses
• Experience supervising and training junior staff in a fast-paced stud setting
• Sound understanding of global thoroughbred industry practices and bloodstock trends
