Normanton State School, Special Education Program are seeking applications to fill the Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) role.

This position is a cluster position which is based at Normanton State School however; will also support Karumba State School.

The Head of Special Education Services position will support students and staff while also working with a range of agencies and organisations.

About the Department:

About the School:

Normanton State School is a remote, rural school that offers learning experiences for students from Prep to Year 10. We are a co-educational school and we cater for students with a range of learning needs and interests.

About the Role:

Normanton State School is a well-established school with an experienced leadership team, and the HOSES would work alongside this team. They would be a part of the team making and leading strategic direction within the school, and analysing data to ensure outcomes were being met.

The HOSES would coordinate the delivery of high-quality advice and support provided by the Special Education Program. They would provide advice and support to SEP and classroom teachers and would lead programs to ensure that all students were achieving. Normanton has a diverse staff with a range of experience.

The HOSES would share their knowledge with staff and assist them to develop, plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments for students with disability, as well as model and teach. They would coordinate and provide intensive targeted teaching for students requiring intervention, and case manage students who require extensive or substantial adjustments.

The HOSES leads the Student Support Committee, oversees the referral process and supports the classroom teachers and other school staff to access departmental or other external specialist services, professional development, and supports as needed. They would build and sustain relationships with parents, government agencies and community groups that support students with disability.

The main priority of Normanton State School is to ensure that students are 'on time and ready for learning'. This priority focusses on student wellbeing and engagement, ensuring that curriculum is locally relevant and that students are well supported.
