Branch Librarian
As a Branch Librarian, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of a branch library, ensuring it is welcoming, efficient, and community-focused. You will lead a team of library staff in delivering high-quality services across lending, programs, technology, reader services and more. From managing rosters to initiating new programs, this is a role for someone who thrives in a people-focused, innovative, and evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, supervise, and develop staff to deliver outstanding, customer-focused library services
Manage library operations, including scheduling, service delivery, and daily account balancing
Develop programs and outreach initiatives for all age groups, from babies to seniors
Promote lifelong learning and literacy through community engagement
Maintain the library facility and ensure smooth functioning of technology and collections
Contribute to library-wide planning, reporting, and team development initiatives
About you
We are looking for a people-focused leader, someone who brings a strong blend of operational management, community engagement, and library expertise to a dynamic public setting.
Essential:
Degree or post graduate qualifications in Library & Information Science or related area. Council may consider applicants nearing completion of qualification.
Eligibility for membership of the Australian Library & Information Association (ALIA)
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
Proven customer service, communication, and conflict resolution skills
Experience in public library programming and emerging library technologies
Ability to work across multiple branches as part of a rotation system
Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
First Aid certificate (or willingness to complete)
Desirable:
Current Driver’s Licence
Marketing or promotional experience in a library context
Broad knowledge of literature and current events

Package: $91,120- $96,591 gross p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation.
Hours of work: Permanent Full-Time role 35 hours per week, (with the option of a 19 day month). Applicants must be available work a range of shifts across a 7 day spread, between the hours of 8:00am - 9:00pm to support the operational requirements of the libraries.
