THE ROLE

LM051 - INDIGENOUS PROTECTED AREA (IPA) OFFICER – SIMPSON DESERT

CL 6 (Commencing at $87,077 progressing to $100,027)

ONGOING POSITION - ALICE SPRINGS

This position will assess the feasibility of establishing an Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) on Aboriginal Land Trusts (ALTs) spanning the Simpson Desert (Atnetye, Pmere Nyente, Aputula and Pmer Ulperre Ingwermine Arletherre ALTs) situated to the east and south east of Alice Springs.

Over the contract period, the development officer, will work with traditional owners and Aboriginal communities of the region to:

  1. Initiate an on country and community-based planning process to support the development of indigenous land management in the region;
  2. Investigate the feasibility of establishing an IPA over the above listed ALTs across the Simpson Desert.
  3. Create a Plan of management (POM) documenting the results of the consultation process, in accordance with the ‘Our Country, Our Way’ guidelines for Australian Indigenous Protected Area Management Plans.

This position will require extensive field work and remote travel.
