The Opportunity

Join us as the Associate Director, Technical Operations at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where you will lead and oversee the strategic management of human, physical, and financial resources for multi-disciplinary teams. These teams span scientific, workshop, and simulation technical operations, supporting diverse fields such as nursing and midwifery, engineering, creative industries, sports, allied health, paramedicine, prosthetics, and science. Your role will encompass directing and inspiring cross-functional teams of teaching and research support professionals across our multiple campuses, ensuring operational excellence and fostering innovation.

You will lead and support a skilled, cross-disciplinary team delivering technical operations across our campuses, creating an environment where people and ideas can thrive;

promote safety and compliance by staying ahead of regulatory requirements, while proactively managing risks to keep our spaces and people safe and future-ready; and contribute to the leadership of the Academic Support Unit, bringing fresh thinking and collaboration to enhance how we support teaching, research and student success.

About you

You're a collaborative and solutions-focused leader who knows how to bring people together and make complex operations feel seamless. With your big picture thinking and hands-on experience, you're confident navigating multi-campus environments, juggling priorities, and making smart decisions that help teams who support teaching and research do their best work. You're calm under pressure, comfortable in a lab or out in the field, and always thinking a few steps ahead, especially when it comes to safety, compliance, and future planning. You’re passionate about developing others, collaboration, building strong relationships, and finding practical ways to improve how we work, every day.

You will possess: Experience leading and developing technical, lab or clinical teams, along with a strong understanding of health and safety responsibilities and relevant legislative requirements. A track record of managing large-scale technical infrastructure and resources across a broad range of disciplines. The ability to research and prepare compelling business cases that help solve complex challenges and guide smart decisions around people, resources and safety. Strong organisational skills, clear communication, and a knack for building meaningful, productive relationships. Leadership experience in delivering support services across multiple sites, with the confidence to navigate competing priorities and engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
