Mane Consulting
Melbourne Full-day Full-time

Description:

About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Engineer (AI) to join our team for a 6-9 month contract, driving the integration of AI solutions, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), into our SaaS product suite. This role is a unique opportunity for a hands-on technical leader to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), advising on and implementing AI-driven features, such as conversational search tools, to enhance our product offerings. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify AI opportunities, integrate solutions, and ensure seamless deployment within our Node, TypeScript, React, and AWS stack. This is a backend-leaning role requiring deep AWS expertise and a proactive approach to tinkering with AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • AI Integration and Advisory : Identify and implement AI opportunities (e.g., LLMs, conversational search) across the product suite, advising on best practices and leveraging existing AI tools without building from scratch.

  • Hands-On Development : Write high-quality, production-ready code in Node, TypeScript, and React, focusing on backend systems and AWS infrastructure to deliver AI-driven features.

  • Technical Leadership : Act as an SME in the AI space, guiding teams on integration strategies, training stakeholders, and staying abreast of market trends in AI and LLMs.

  • Solution Design and Implementation : Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design and deploy AI-enhanced components, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical architecture.

  • Infrastructure and Optimization : Manage and optimize AWS-based infrastructure for AI integrations, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.

  • Agile Contribution : Jump in and out of projects as needed, building, testing, and iterating quickly to meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Skills and Experience
  • Essential :

    • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years at a Principal or Staff Engineer level, ideally in a SaaS product environment.

    • Proven expertise in Node, TypeScript, React, and AWS, with a strong focus on backend development and infrastructure.

    • Hands-on experience integrating AI solutions, particularly LLMs, into existing products, with a track record of delivering practical AI-driven features (e.g., conversational search, automation tools).

    • Deep understanding of AWS services (e.g., Lambda, ECS, S3) and infrastructure management for scalable applications.

    • Strong advisory skills, with experience guiding teams on AI implementation strategies and staying current with AI market trends.

    • Comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on role, with the ability to tinker, experiment, and deliver under tight timelines
