The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join the RE Legal & Governance team within QIC Real Estate on a full time permanent basis. This role offers the opportunity to provide expert legal advice on the operation, management and development of QIC Real Estate retail, commercial, and industrial property portfolio across Australia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice and solutions to support QIC RE in the development, operation, and management of its retail, commercial, and industrial assets across Australia, including advising on all stages of major projects, from planning, reconfiguration, titling considerations and construction to leasing, operations and acquisitions / disposals.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including tenders, construction contracts, consultancy agreements, leases and operational contracts, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation across various states and territories.
- Collaborate closely with QIC's business units, including Asset Management, Development, and Sustainability, to implement strategic initiatives and mitigate legal risks in line with QIC's risk appetite.
- Lead the management of legal disputes, contract administration, and ongoing legal issues, providing proactive guidance to commercial teams on contract interpretation, variations, and compliance matters.
- Work as a trusted advisor, managing relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, including contractors, consultants, tenants, and authorities, while fostering collaboration within the RE Legal & Governance, QIC Legal team and commercial teams.
- Advise on emerging opportunities or risks and developing solutions to streamline legal processes and enhance efficiency.
- Working closely with QIC's business generally to implement its business strategies, initiatives and vision in a risk aware manner and establishing strong working relationships with all relevant stakeholders.
- Drive the development and delivery of training programs to ensure teams are well-equipped with the knowledge to manage legal and commercial risks effectively.
You will bring broad legal expertise across a variety of areas, including construction law, with over 5 years of post-qualification experience in Private Practice and/or In-House and an unrestricted practicing certificate. Your strong commercial problem-solving and evaluation skills enable you to identify issues and make sound judgments to achieve positive outcomes while meeting legal requirements.
You have a proven ability to negotiate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, understanding diverse positions and reaching appropriate solutions. With a solid understanding of legal and regulatory requirements, you thrive in collaborative environments and willingness to adjust your approach.
