Southern Cross Care QLD have an opportunity for a Gardener/Maintenance Officer to join our SCCQ family at the beautiful Illoura Village Residential Aged Care Home in Chinchilla, currently undergoing an exciting extension and rejuvenation.

About the role
In this important role, of a Gardener/Maintenance Officer, you will work with the Residential Manager to ensure the general maintenance work around the home and grounds is carried out in alignment with a scheduled program. This role will also see you coordinate contractors where required and ensure all machinery and equipment is maintained in optimal operational condition. A friendly sociable personality coupled with empathy and compassion for the elderly will make you a perfect fit for this role.
Duties Of The Role May Include
Assistance to residents and site with general maintenance dutiesEnsure communal areas are tidy and maintained in support of resident activitiesAssess and prioritise daily work order requests and manage completion of each orderHorticultural and grounds development, maintenance and monitoringGarden and grounds maintenance including mowing, hedging, pruning, weeding, edgingPreventative maintenanceOther maintenance/gardening duties as required
What will you bring to the role?
Maintenance and/or Trade qualification (desirable)Previous experience and knowledge in general and commercial maintenance.Previous experience managing contractor relationships is highly desirableDemonstrated ability to work from manuals and drawingsDemonstrated problem solving and a “can do” attitudeExceptional people and interpersonal skillsWell-developed written and verbal communication skillsStrong decision-making and time management skillsAbility to work as part of a team but also be capable of working autonomously

Southern Cross Care Queensland (SCCQ) is a Catholic not-for-profit organisation established by the Knights of the Southern Cross, more than 40 years ago. They saw a need to provide compassionate care and inclusive service to some of the most vulnerable, the ageing population, in the community.
Since then, SCCQ has grown to employ over 1700 staff caring for and supporting more than 2000 people across 13 residential aged care homes, 5 retirement villages, 28 social houses, the National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and home care services in metropolitan and rural Queensland.
