The Global Optimiser Development Department provides market intelligence and pricing strategies, optimising refining and trading operations through advanced forecasting models and market analysis.
Role Overview
As a Downstream Market Analyst, you’ll evaluate global market movements, model price forecasts, and provide strategic input to trading, planning, and downstream business units. Your understanding of supply/demand dynamics, market premiums/discounts, and contract structures will drive key business decisions.
You’ll work closely with traders, product specialists, and economists to ensure robust market intelligence, while continuously improving forecasting methodologies and pricing frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse global events that influence the energy and oil & gas industry.
- Develop and update rolling market outlooks (3–4 months)
- Support transfer pricing reviews and JV contract negotiations
- Provide insights to Trading, Business Development, and Law teams
- Identify and implement best practices to improve profitability and operational performance
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Engineering, Marketing, or a closely related field; a postgraduate qualification (such as an MBA or advanced economics studies) is an advantage
- Strong background in data analysis, including experience with data mining and warehousing tools
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, ideally within the downstream oil & gas sector, with at least 3 years focused on market analysis of refined products at global, regional, and national levels
- Solid understanding of refinery economics, product flows, and pricing mechanisms across fuels and petrochemical markets
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a willingness to share expertise and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
