Where You'll Be Working
Join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) as part of the Youth Engagement Service (YES), where you’ll work with young people experiencing acute mental health distress. This is a 12-month temporary full-time position embedded within the Hunter Valley Mental Health Team, based in Maitland—a vibrant regional centre surrounded by picturesque wine country, bushland and easy access to Newcastle.
The YES initiative places CAMHS clinicians within adult mental health teams, offering assertive, flexible, and community-based support for young people up to the age of 24. You’ll be joining a skilled, compassionate, and responsive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering person-centred care and improving outcomes for young people and their families.
About The Role
In this impactful role, you will:
Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate mental health assessment and treatmentDeliver short-term, evidence-based interventions to young people in crisisOffer specialist advice and consultation to adult mental health colleaguesFacilitate smooth transitions from CAMHS to adult mental health servicesCollaborate with multiple stakeholders—within health, government, and community-managed agencies—to ensure integrated and responsive care
About You
You are a senior mental health clinician who is:
Emotionally intelligent and client-focusedPassionate about working with young people in acute mental health distressSkilled in navigating complex systems and transitionsA strong communicator with excellent interpersonal and collaborative abilitiesCommitted to trauma-informed, culturally competent, and recovery-oriented practice
Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or NursingAHPRA registration or eligibility for membership with a relevant professional bodyDemonstrated experience supporting young people in acute mental health settingsWillingness and ability to travel within the local regionCommitment to regular supervision and ongoing professional development
