The position of?Intake & Assessment Officer is currently open at our Lismore Medicare Mental Health Centre, working out of Southern Cross University. This is a permanent part time position (around 60.8 hours per fortnight) with fortnightly weekend work.
As one of the first contact points for people accessing Medicare Mental Health Centre, our Intake and Assessment Officers need to build a positive rapport with a wide range of people, as well as their family and friends.
Reporting to the Clinical Lead, you will work with a group of committed clinical and operational staff to develop and promote the reputation of Medicare Mental Health Centre Lismore within the local and wider community.
Responsibilities include:
Effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, provide brief interventions, and coordinate care for people that contact, or are referred to, the Medicare Mental Health Centre hub.Work closely with local community and partner health services to provide holistic and integrated care.Participate in regular clinical supervision and will be required to present and discuss cases with the clinical care team.Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including general practitioners, allied health clinicians, community engagement workers, and support staff.

About you:
You will need to be skilled in assessing a person’s needs, including complex risk assessments and the ability to action a plan to mitigate any identified risk. We are seeking welcoming, professional, and committed individuals, with the following attributes:
Tertiary level qualifications in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or a related discipline that provides a sound understanding and knowledge of assessing and working with people at risk.Knowledge and understanding of mental health, including related evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.Skilled in intake, screening, and biopsychosocial assessments to identify client needs assessments, facilitating service access, providing therapeutic interventions, and participating in care planning.Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment, coordinating client care.Experience in the mental health sector and a broad understanding of the challenges and experiences of people managing their mental health. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of clients, colleagues, and partner organisations. Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
