Job Title: Principal Governance Officer
Location: Brisbane CBD
Contract Duration: 3 month contract, may extend
Salary: $85 per hour, plus super
Are you a strategic thinker with strong financial governance experience in the public sector? An exciting opportunity is available for a seasoned governance professional to support a high-performing team within a government agency on a short-term contract basis.
About the Role
As the Principal Governance Officer, you will play a key role in enhancing financial governance capability across the Agency. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of governance frameworks, internal controls, financial policies, and assurance activities that align with whole-of-government requirements and promote best practice financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain financial management and governance frameworks, including the CFO Assurance Framework and associated reporting.
- Design and conduct internal control self-assessment activities, and analyse and present findings to senior leadership.
- Review and update financial management policies and procedures in line with legislative and whole-of-government changes.
- Manage and maintain financial delegations, ensuring compliance and relevancy.
- Provide strategic, actionable advice and guidance to internal stakeholders, promoting continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery.
- Help mentor more junior members of the governance team and support the Manager, Financial Governance and Operations, in the delivery of core governance functions.
- Contribute to reporting and audit functions, including preparing documentation for executive and committee meetings.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in financial governance within the public sector, ideally within a Queensland Government context.
- Strong professional judgement and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex legislation and policy.
- A proactive and accountable approach to delivery, with the ability to drive outcomes independently.
- High-level communication and interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate with a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements and support a culture of continuous growth.
- Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
