NLC is looking for someone passionate about Indigenous land, climate, and culture to lead a powerful program rooted in purpose.

About the Role

As our new Environmental Markets Coordinator, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping and delivering the Northern Land Council’s (NLC) Environmental Market Program - starting with the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC)-funded Savanna Fire Management (SFM) initiative. You’ll work directly with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal corporations, and Indigenous landholders across the Northern Territory to develop sustainable, culturally informed carbon projects and other environmental market enterprises. Your work will help generate meaningful income for Aboriginal communities while protecting country and culture for future generations.

What you will Bring

You’re an experienced project leader with strong skills in environmental markets, policy, and Indigenous engagement. With excellent planning and relationship-building skills, you’ll ensure projects are not only well executed but deeply grounded in community priorities and long-term sustainability. Your communication is clear and accessible, and your leadership style is all about respect, collaboration, and capability building. In addition to this you will have:-

  • Degree level qualifications in a relevant field such as Business and / or Environmental Sciences.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience including previous experience in the carbon market, demonstrating technical expertise in environmental market business development and knowledge of the Australian Carbon Credit Unit Scheme.
  • Understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 and other legislation relevant to the land interests of traditional owners and Aboriginal communities, as managed by the NLC.
  • Current Northern Territory Driver’s licence and ability to travel to or within remote areas, as required.

We offer:

  • A base salary of $110,763 per annum plus 14.5% superannuation and salary sacrificing up to $15,900 + Meal Entertainment and Holiday Accommodation benefits up to $2,650 per year.
  • Other benefits under our Enterprise Agreement include:
  • District allowance of up to $4,797 per annum for individuals with dependents and $2630 without dependents.
  • 5 weeks annual leave , leaving loading, 18 days personal leave;
  • Paid Christmas close down ;
  • Upon completion of 12 months of service an Annual airfare with a net (in hand) value of $2,961
