About the Role
We’re on the lookout for an experienced and proactive Welding & Fabrication Workshop Quality Lead to join our Forrestfield team. In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure the highest standards of welding quality and compliance while driving continuous improvement across our workshop operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor and inspire the Welding QA/QC team.
- Foster a culture focused on quality, safety and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical expertise and lead training initiatives to build team capability.
- Ensure all welding activities comply with AS/NZS 1554 and client specifications.
- Manage critical welding documentation, including WPS, PQR, WQR and MDR.
- Oversee all non-destructive testing (NDT) activities to maintain compliance and traceability.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles to enhance welding processes.
- Support the integration of robotic and mechanised welding to boost quality and efficiency.
- Serve as the main point of contact for third-party inspectors, clients, and regulatory bodies.
- Provide clear, accurate reporting on welding quality performance and compliance.
- Uphold Schlam’s Safety Management System and ensure safe work practices.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits and incident investigations.
- Promote correct PPE use and maintain a strong safety culture.
What You’ll Bring
- Welding Supervisor Certificate 10 or equivalent
- NDT Certification
- 5+ years experience in welding quality control, inspection and supervision in heavy fabrication or manufacturing
- In-depth knowledge of AS/NZS 1554 and international welding standards
- Proven experience in welding procedure development and documentation
- Familiarity with robotic or automated welding systems
- Experience with process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)
- Fluency in Mandarin (desirable)
