  • Base Salary HEO 4, $80,037 to $84,568 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Save Sight Institute (SSI) is a Centre of The University of Sydney, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health, located on the campus of Sydney Eye Hospital in Macquarie Street, Sydney. It was established in 1985 and has grown to be one of the top three ophthalmic research institutes in Australia, is internationally recognised as a centre of innovative research into ophthalmology and as a centre of excellence for clinical research, learning and teaching.

The Clinical Assistant provides essential clinical support and assistance to clinicians (Ophthalmologists) and other clinical staff working across the SSI clinic and Sydney Eye Hospital. The clinical assistant key role is to provide procedural assistance for intravitreal injections clinics ensuring the relevant work, health and safety standards aligned to the university and NSW health policies are met. They may contribute towards clinical trials.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • prepare for intravitreal injection procedures encompassing both administrative and clinical tasks following relevant established protocols

  • perform level 2 clinical procedure checks for patients undergoing injections Provide support and work collaboratively with ophthalmologists, researchers, students, other clinical staff, and administrative team

  • provide a safe service delivery

  • undertake ad hoc projects and other activities including involvement with clinical trials

  • restock necessary procedural consumables, preparation of patient medical records, request and collect missing files from Sydney Eye Hospital medical records, and outpatient department

  • carrying out appropriate clinical handover

  • assist with clinical flow and maintain a safe procedure room environment

  • ensure clinical safety for procedure management is conducted during patient injections and day to day tasks

  • ensure the safe storage and disposal of hazardous substances and support a clean, safe environment.

About you

  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in relevant field e.g Enrolled Nursing (with no conditions) or an equivalent combination of relevant training experience

  • APRAH registration and • Registered with/ or eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) to practice as an Enrolled Nurse, and accredited to administer medication

  • experience with handling hazardous substances.

  • proven ability to implement safety requirements.

  • ability to remain calm and prioritise work under pressure with competing priorities

  • ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

  • ability to follow directions and set protocols, seeks additional knowledge/information /advice presented with unfamiliar situations

  • demonstrate excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a broad range of people and patients including clinicians, elderly, non-english speaking patients and those with visual disability. strong organizational and time management skills

  • demonstrated ability to work well in a team and collaborate with others.
