SJGHC seeks a Consumer Representative to advocate for consumers (patients, clients, carers and families) in the context of patient experience, consumer engagement and the role of family and or carers as a key part of delivering safe and high-quality holistic care.
The Patient Experience and Clinical Excellence ( PEaCE ) Committee is sub-Committee of the Board of Directors of St John of God Health Care ( SJGHC ).
The PEaCE Committee provides assurance to the SJGHC Board that SJGHC provides and coordinates safe and high-quality care across all sites and services.
SJGHC is recruiting one (1) consumer representative to join the PEaCE Committee.
The PEaCE Committee is chaired by an independent Board member and its membership composition consists of a broad range of experience in medical, nursing, health research and hospital administration backgrounds. The role of the PEaCE Committee is to provide a platform for detailed review and inquiry, and to report to the Board of Directors all significant issues for discussion and decision.
A PEaCE Board sub-committee consumer member will provide advice on:

Safety and quality risks from the consumer perspective.

Practical application of identified safety and quality risks for consumers.

Advocate for consumer consultations to ensure they are appropriate, comprehensive and timely.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
-
Lived experience, either directly or as a primary caregiver, in a hospital and/or day hospital in the past twenty-four (24) months. Applicants who have frequent interactions with hospitals/day hospitals will be viewed favourably.

A passion for advocating for consumers regarding healthcare delivery.

Extensive experience as a consumer representative and/or consumer advocate.

Confidence collaborating with health care providers, administrators and specialists.

A working knowledge of clinical governance for application to the issues and matters presented to the PEaCE board sub-committee for consideration and decision making.

Able to give constructive feedback and build positive conversations

A working knowledge of hospital and community services accreditation and short notice assessment processes and the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, specifically Standard Two, Partnering with Consumers.

A strong working knowledge of the breadth and complexity of health care, specifically private hospital health care.
It is desirable to have established connections to other consumer networks related to the safety and quality of care in hospitals and/or day hospitals.
Expectations of PEaCE Committee member:

Keeping abreast of applicable legislation and regulation.
-
Adhere to SJGHC’s policy framework, including the organisation’s Code of Conduct and Privacy Policy.

Adhere to applicable obligations and duties set out in relevant organisational policies.

Be appointed for a three-year tenure.

Meet bi-monthly either in person or via videoconference.

Attend ad-hoc meetings as required.

Review agenda items, minutes and papers in advance of meeting attendance

Have a level of digital literacy to receive emails, access and utilise a board and sub-committee record keeping application (i.e. Diligent) and use videoconferencing facilities.
SJGHC will:

Provide orientation and ongoing support to the PEaCE Board sub-committee consumer representatives.

Remunerate the sub-committee member.
