About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee/Junior Bridge Drafter to join our Perth Bridge team. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the delivery of design drawings for bridges and specialist structures. You will work closely with experienced drafters, designers, and engineers, contributing to projects for private asset owners, contractors, and state government agencies.
This is a structured training opportunity for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, where you will be supported to develop your technical drafting skills, gain exposure to real-world engineering projects, and receive mentoring to build a successful career in drafting. We are flexible and willing to accommodate current students, working with their schedules to balance TAFE commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn to create bridge design layouts and detailed drawings with guidance from experienced drafters and engineers.
- Develop an understanding of technical drafting standards and apply them to your work.
- Work as part of a supportive team, collaborating with drafters, designers, and engineers.
- Gain experience using industry-standard drafting software, including AutoCAD.
- Assist with drafting tasks, document control, and general office duties.
- Take part in problem-solving discussions and contribute ideas to project teams.
- Receive mentorship and training from senior drafters and the Drafting Manager to build your skills over time.
- This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified role so only applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates will be considered.
- Currently enrolled in, or a graduate of, a Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Civil and Structural Engineering (preferred).
- Alternatively, candidates studying or completing a Certificate III in Engineering – Technical or Diploma of Engineering – Technical (Drafting) will also be considered.
- Beginner-level knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience or exposure to engineering, drafting, or construction (preferred but not required).
- Basic knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
- An interest in bridges, structural design, and engineering projects.
- Casual work arrangement possible with flexibility to support study commitments.
