    About Us

    The MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development is an interdisciplinary research institute of Western Sydney University. The vision for the Institute is to optimise human interaction, and wellbeing across lifespan. We strive to solve the problems that matter most through the themes: sensing and perceiving, interacting with each other, and technologies for humans. Researchers in MARCS come from many disciplines including cognitive science, developmental psychology, language science, music science, cognitive neuroscience, and biomedical, electrical, electronic and software engineering. The Institute consists of three Research Areas - the International Centre for Neuromorphic Systems, Brain Sciences, and Biomedical and Human Technologies. The Research Assistant Babylab will join the Brain Sciences research program.

    The Opportunity

    Are you passionate about research and eager to contribute to impactful research in human analogical reasoning? Western’s MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development is seeking an exceptional Research Assistant to join the team supporting our BabyLab. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on the innovative project, “The origins and development of human analogical reasoning” funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant led by Professor Sue Hespos and Dr Genevieve Quek.

    As a Research Assistant, you’ll collaborate with a diverse team including but not limited to MARCS academic researchers, administration staff, research assistants and officers as well as undergraduate and HDR students. You will often be the first point of contact between the public, including families who participate in our research, and BabyLab. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing recruitment, scheduling, and communication with team members, as well as conducting EEG and behavioural experiments. Additionally, you will handle data collection in EEG and behavioural experiences, data management, equipment upkeep, and budgetary organisation and coordinating activities across the three lab locations: Westmead, Kingswood, and Bankstown.

    This is a part-time (21 hour per week), fixed-term position for three years based primarily at Westmead Innovation Quarter.

    About You

    You possess a relevant degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience or related field or are progressing towards completion. You have experience in conducting psychological research particularly working with parents, infants and young children. Your strong organisational skills enable you to effectively manage databases, and recruitment scheduling. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills enable you to work effectively within a team.

    Working with Children Check

    It is a mandatory requirement for any incumbent of this position to have a current NSW Employee Working with Children Clearance in accordance with the NSW Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.

    Remuneration Package: HEW Level 5 $59,713 to $67,528 p.a. (comprising Salary of $50,458 to $57,062 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading).

    Please note - the above salary range is 0.6 FTE of the full-time equivalent rate.
