headspace Southport, located on Yugambeh land, is a place where young people can get free and confidential support for their mental health, access non-judgemental information and support around drugs or alcohol and access to a GP.

The service, operated by Lives Lived Well, a not-for-profit organisation, is an early intervention service aiming to provide youth-friendly, accessible, and effective care, treatment and support to young people aged 12 to 25 who are at risk of developing, or are experiencing, any mental health concerns.

We currently have a full-time ongoing vacancy for a Clinician to join our team to deliver mental health services to young people. This role will be based in our office at Southport, working Monday to Friday.

About the role

In this role you will be using a Single Session Framework to deliver therapeutic support to a young person. This ranges between one to six sessions depending on the presenting factors. Our committed and compassionate team have a rich history of working with young people, their families, and carers to help young people achieve their recovery goals.

In this client facing role, you will also work closely with external stakeholders including QLD health and internal and external referral partners. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will also be attending and contributing to team, allocation, and clinical review meetings.

Reporting to the Team Leader, as a Clinician you will:

  • Deliver evidence-based interventions, working collaboratively with young people, their families, and their supports within the “headstart” model (Single Session Therapy).
  • In addition to your therapeutic intervention, you may be required to conduct bio-psycho-social assessments of young people presenting to the service, using the headspace assessment tool and document the results of assessment and screening.
  • Conduct in depth risk assessments, including assessment of suicide risk and violence and provide follow up support, referrals, and treatment.
  • Confidently manage competing clinical and non-clinical priorities in a busy youth mental health service.
  • Refer young people as appropriate and provide follow up support.

The remuneration for this position will be commensurate with the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience and will range between gross $85,120 and $97,377 per annum plus superannuation and salary packaging benefits.

About you

In addition to your strong clinical skills, you thrive on collaboration with others and have the ability to self-reflect. You are passionate about helping young clients who are navigating mental health challenges and difficult life experiences. You can work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team and utilise the appropriate evidence-based techniques to support your clients.

Additionally, you will also possess the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in the delivery of brief therapeutic interventions, group programs, counselling services and treatment planning.
  • Highly developed communication (including written) and interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage with young people, advocate on their behalf and establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, clients, carers, and stakeholders.
  • Have the ability to actively engage and work collaboratively with young people and their families/significant others to achieve positive recovery outcomes.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to balance competing demands while maintaining your own wellbeing.
