About us The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
We are looking for a savvy media adviser to join our high performing media team in the Department of Government Services.
As a key member of the team, you'll work in an issues rich environment on topics such as cyber security, renting and housing, increasing mobile and broadband connectivity across the state, and improving services for the Victorian community, including new digital products.

As an ideal candidate you can:
*
* identify opportunities and channels to showcase the department's work, such as organising media events, pitching stories, and developing materials and content such as media releases, talking points, media responses and speaking notes
* undertake horizon scanning to identify emerging issues and support the team to develop mitigation strategies to manage risk. As part of this, contribute to regular reactive media enquiries and proactive media lines in an issues rich environment
* build strong working relationships within the division and with key business areas across the department and provide communication and media expertise and advice to executives and colleagues that best positions the department
* use your negotiation skills and influence to help resolve competing views to deliver positive outcomes. Support the team to develop processes for planning and managing communication and media work
* support emergency preparedness planning and contribute to Victorian Government surge teams as required
* provide surge support for other priorities within the division where required.
We're looking for someone who is:
* flexible and quickly adapts to systems and processes quickly due to changing priorities and situations
* aware of political and organisational context, including understanding and considering priorities and interests of various groups and key individuals
* can communicate with impact, who makes a positive impression on others, comes across with credibility, communicates clearly and holds the listener's attention, and can deal with complex and sensitive topics and questions
* a critical thinker with problem-solving capabilities including considering business context when resolving issues and critically evaluating problems from multiple perspectives to deliver solutions
* a collaborator who engages with others to help create a culture of collaboration, identifies and works to overcome barriers to knowledge or information sharing and identifies ways to work with other teams to deliver outcomes.
Mandatory requirements
* A relevant tertiary degree in communications or related discipline and/or experience in a government communication or media role.
