Location ProfileVictoria University Secondary College is a multi-campus school comprising a Junior Campus, Senior Campus with a Trade Training Centre. The college has approximately 1010 students from years 7 to 12 and services the residential area of Cairnlea, Deer Park, and environs in the western suburbs of Melbourne. The college caters for students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds and provides a broad range of personal, academic and practical experiences for students. The college values each student and successfully provides curriculum and other services to meet student needs. The organization of the College is based on the concept of Professional Learning Communities an approach to school improvement where groups of teachers work collaboratively at the school level to improve student outcomes. At VUSC we strive to enhance our teaching practices by sharing resources and analysing student data. Our staff also support other schools to implement effective PLC practices, as we are a PLC Link school.
The College empowers members of our learning community to develop control over their own thinking and actions, develop the self-belief and confidence to persevere with learning challenges and tasks and to take initiative and act. Our focus on reflective thinking develops independent learners. Our focus on collaboration develops students who can work co-operatively towards a common goal; to share ideas and resources while respecting and recognising individual contributions. Selection Criteria1. Experience and sound knowledge of speech pathology techniques and the ability to develop, provide and evaluate speech pathology services and provide specialist advice on appropriate intervention strategies.
2. Demonstrated ability to deliver a comprehensive speech pathology service to students and families within an educational environment including speech and language assessment and reporting and the provision of advice on program delivery
3. Demonstrated capacity to work as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary professional team and contribute significantly to the achievements of the team
4. Strong capacity to apply highly developed assessment, conceptual and analytical skills in the provision of student support services and work with children, young people and their families.
5. Demonstrated ability to design, deliver or broker professional learning, for teachers and other relevant professionals, in the area of language and communication
6. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people within the education community and beyond
Role- The speech pathologist will work with the Disability Inclusion Team and under the management of the Disability Inclusion Leader
- Screen and/or assess students with speech, language, pragmatic, and other communication and literacy difficulties
- Work across the Response to Intervention Framework, providing intervention to whole class, small groups, or individual students
- Adopt evidence-based practice and uphold Speech Pathology Australia¿s Professional Standards and Code of Ethics
- Design speech therapy programs and upskill staff and parents to support students with speech sound difficulties at school and home
- Work closely with teachers and education support staff to implement language and literacy programmes
- Assess, document, record and evaluate student progress in programs
- Design and deliver professional development to education support and/or teaching staff on language and literacy difficulties
- Actively support the PSD application process
- Perform other duties as a member of the Disability Inclusion Team
- Liaise with staff and parents/carers, concerns or issues with respect to the program or student
- Provide the school leadership team with a high level of advice and support in the re-appraisal of students
- Provide a service to the school and other agencies as required utilising specific knowledge of specific therapies, programs and case management strategies.
- Assist and participate in the development of policies, strategies, processes and procedures for the effective delivery of speech pathology services to students with communication disorders
- Maintain appropriate records and provide written and oral reports as required
- Liaise with other professionals within the schools network as required
- Develop and maintain links with community resources and facilitate the maintenance of school community networks
- Provide accomplished and highly regarded speech pathology services across schools as required
- Promote awareness of issues relating to communication disorders within the school community
- Demonstrate and model excellent teaching and learning strategies, which will assist teachers to facilitate a high level of success with student in their classrooms
- Undertake a leading role in the development, implementation and evaluation of individual learning programs for students with severe language disorder
- Manage the delivery of support services to students, teachers, parents and other school clients.
- Ensure all external providers deliver the required service.
