The location of this position is negotiable within the NNSWLHD geographical footprint.

Additionally, Internal NSW Health applicants may negotiate a suitable arrangement for attending Ministry of Health offices in Sydney.

About the role

The Chief Legal Counsel for Northern NSW Local Health District is responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategic and operational legal frameworks. In this role you will provide expert advice to Senior executives and internal and external stakeholders and direct the legal function to ensure legal service delivery enables and facilitates the achievement of organisational priorities.

How to Apply

Please provide a (maximum) two page covering letter addressing the below selection criteria and submit this with your CV.

  1. A degree in law from an Australian tertiary institution or a comparable overseas qualification, plus a current Australian jurisdiction practising certificate (or evidenced entitlement to hold such a practising certificate)
  2. Extensive relevant legal experience in a leadership role in large complex organisation, including provision of supervision for all legal staff. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and develop a diverse range of legal and non-legal staff to deliver high quality outcomes
  3. Demonstrated high level knowledge and understanding of legal practice within a public health sector context and the challenges associated with the provision of in-house legal services
  4. Proven high level leadership and change management skills, and demonstrated ability to manage people and situations flexibly, responsively and with discernment
  5. Excellent negotiation and influencing skills, including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
  6. Demonstrated extensive experience in advising senior and executive management on complex legal issues, including advanced oral and written communication skills
  7. Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment, including overnight stays as required
