We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Head of Communications to lead the development and execution of our organisation-wide communications strategy. Reporting to the Chief Strategy, Marketing and Communications Officer, this is a key leadership role responsible for managing the voice, reputation, and public presence of one of Australia’s most respected aged care and veteran service providers.


As Head of Communications , we would expect you to:

  • Develop and implement integrated communications and stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Act as a spokesperson and prepare leaders for media engagements and public appearances including speech writing or briefing notes
  • Ensure excellent internal communications that align with strategic priorities and culture
  • Build and maintain key external relationships including RSL NSW, media & government
  • Oversee crisis communication planning and response in partnership with executive leaders
  • Direct our Government Relations partner on government advocacy and issues management efforts, including policy and funding campaigns
  • Manage communications team performance, budgets, and agency partnerships


This is an exciting opportunity for a senior communications professional who thrives in a mission-led environment and is passionate about veteran support and aged care advocacy.


Our expectations are you will have:

  • A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field (postgrad desirable)
  • 15+ years' experience in a senior communications or advocacy role, ideally in aged care, health, veterans’ affairs, or not-for-profit sectors
  • Strong media relations, government and/ or industry peak bodies relations and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience managing communications in complex environments with sensitive issues
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead teams and develop high-impact communications strategies
  • The ability to multi-task and thrive in a very fast paced and demanding environment
  • A deep understanding of veteran issues and a passion for supporting those who have served is advantageous, as is familiarity with aged care sector reforms and advocacy needs
