The role

Reporting to the Team Leader, Science Support, you will support the production, maintenance and improvement of quality systems for FSQ. Applying both your forensic biology experience and expertise in ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements, you will:

  • Ensure FSQ's compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements, as well as other accreditation, certification, regulatory and legislative requirements
  • Drive the delivery and coordination of quality and compliance processes and procedures, the monitoring and reporting of risks, issues, quality losses and non-conformance
  • Produce, maintain and improve quality systems for the Team
  • Complete requests from regulatory bodies, executives or stakeholders to produce dossiers, reports and data
  • Provide expert professional advice and assistance to stakeholders on quality, compliance and relevant reporting systems
  • Analyse and evaluate information provided by quality systems processes, especially internal audit, and identify opportunities for quality improvement

The successful person

You will have:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree in science or forensic science with significant applied experience in a forensic biology lab environment
  • Relevant post graduate science qualifications and formal qualifications in Quality Management or Systems would be highly desirable

You can demonstrate:

  • Experience and skills in quality assurance, manufacturing or process development under ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements
  • Current knowledge of accreditation, certification and regulatory environment of scientific and technical organisations
  • Ability to provide expert, professional advice to multidisciplinary stakeholders on improving quality of processes and services
  • Proven success in implementing, maintaining and improving Quality Systems in a large organisation
  • Effective professional, independent, evidence-based decision making and judgement skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage own time effectively, while remaining flexible to changing priorities
  • High level, effective problem-solving, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of required vaccination

About us

Located at Coopers Plains, Brisbane, FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland.

Our work at FSQ involves exposure to material related to deaths and criminal offences that may be confronting, due to its graphic and personal nature. Sensitive and professional management of exhibits and information is a critical requirement of this role. The successful candidate will have personal qualities that include well developed resilience, tact and effective strategies for managing themselves and their ability to support colleagues in situations that may be distressing and stressful.

Please note that Forensic Science Queensland has recently been through a Machinery of Government change, and as of 1 July 2024, was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice.
