Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Payroll Team Leader to lead a team of Payroll Officers in the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services. Reporting to the Payroll Manager and working alongside Payroll Analysts, this role is responsible for managing day-to-day payroll operations, ensuring legislative compliance, and driving continuous improvement in payroll processes and team performance.
The role will see you lead a geographically dispersed team with a focus on ensuring a seamless and positive payroll experience for all GHD Australia employees.
This position offers a variety of work and will see you:
• Supervise, support, and develop a team of Payroll Officers to ensure efficient payroll delivery
• Oversee the end-to-end payroll processes, ensuring accurate pay calculations with policies, relevant legislation, and Awards, including taxation, superannuation and reporting obligations.
• Act as the escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee queries
• Monitor team workloads, prioritise tasks, and manage deadlines to meet payroll cycles.
• Providing advice and guidance to Australian Payroll Manager, identifying potential risks or improvement opportunities.
• Working with the Australian Payroll Manager to Implement effective and scalable solutions, including process automation and system enhancements.
• Developing, mentoring and empowering direct team members to deliver appropriate solutions, customer service and timely advice.
• Ensure all payroll documentation and processes are up to date and audit ready.
To be successful in this role you will require the following:
• 7+ years’ experience in payroll, with 2+ years in a supervisory or team lead role.
• Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, EBAs/Awards, and superannuation compliance.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate team members.
• Experience managing high-volume payroll operations and resolving complex queries
• High level of attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills
• Proficient in payroll systems (e.g., ADP GlobalView, SAP, Chris21, Oracle, BST or similar)
• Exposure to process improvement methodologies or payroll project work will be highly regarded
