As Australia’s AML/CTF regulator and financial intelligence unit, AUSTRAC is responsible for detecting, deterring and disrupting criminal exploitation of the Australian financial system, to protect the Australian community from serious and organised crime.

The Senior Analyst is a member of the Regulatory Insights team within AUSTRAC’s Regulatory Division. The Regulatory Division leads AUSTRAC’s regulatory compliance and investigations functions, including AUSTRAC’s efforts to monitor and support compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act).
The Regulatory Insights team delivers an analysis capability to proactively identify and assess risk within AUSTRAC's regulated population, communicating findings to relevant internal and external stakeholders.
Using various data and information sources, the team researches trends, vulnerabilities, and existing and emerging regulatory risks to deepen understanding of AUSTRACs regulatory environment. The team produces written assessments to communicate insights and judgements that assist to inform, target and prioritise AUSTRACs regulatory work.
What are we looking for

- Research, Analysis & Writing – Experienced in research, operational intelligence or strategic intelligence, including sound knowledge of research and intelligence processes, methodologies and techniques.
- Regulatory Environment – Possesses relevant experience in the AML/CTF regulatory environment (experience in other regulatory regimes is also desirable).
- Stakeholder Management - Developed interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and the ability to establish and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as AUSTRAC’s leadership group, other AUSTRAC teams, partner agencies and other government agencies.
- Persuade and Influence - Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate key findings and influence decision making through a range of channels, including written products and verbal briefings.
Key Duties
The Senior Analyst, under limited direction, is responsible for:
- Undertaking research and analysis to identify risks, trends and emerging issues relevant to AUSTRAC’s regulatory environment.
- Information collection, data extraction, collation, and analysis of AUSTRAC and other information and data, to inform and enable operational and strategic outcomes.
- Leading the initiation, production, and coordination of high quality written assessments for a range of stakeholders, including development of response options to complex regulatory challenges.
- Developing and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including AUSTRAC staff, government agencies, and industry.
- Collaborating with AUSTRAC’s Data Division to support the development of data products and models.

To be eligible for this role you:
- Must be an Australian citizen at the time you apply.
- Will need to undertake AUSTRAC’s pre-engagement checks.
- Will need to obtain and maintain an ongoing Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance
