The organisation
Philanthropy Australia is the national peak body for philanthropy, representing over 900 members including trusts, foundations, families, donors, advisers, and not-for-profits. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, it champions the role of philanthropy in Australian society by providing advocacy, resources, networking opportunities, and thought leadership. Its mission is to inspire more and better philanthropy and foster a generous and inclusive Australia. Through promoting transparency, supporting new philanthropists, and enhancing effectiveness in giving, Philanthropy Australia aims to drive positive social change across the country.
The role
The Executive Director Membership and Engagement is responsible for leading and executing Philanthropy Australia's membership and engagement strategy. This includes growing and diversifying the membership base, enhancing value propositions, and implementing member services that align with strategic goals. The role also involves leadership in business development, overseeing member retention and recruitment initiatives, and fostering partnerships with external stakeholders. In addition to managing a national team, the role includes accountability for budgeting, CRM utilisation, reporting to executive leadership, and ensuring a unified and impactful member engagement approach across regions.
This Executive Director will bring experience in strategic leadership within philanthropic, membership, or not-for-profit organisations, along with a strong background in marketing, communications, and business development. Skills in building strong internal cultures, managing diverse teams, and engaging high-net-worth individuals are crucial. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and financial acumen to manage budgets and drive outcomes. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, inspire a shared purpose, and lead transformation will be key to success.
