The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Senior Media Officer to be part of our Industry, Strategy and Partnerships Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

The Senior Media Officer is a specialist position within the Media Unit in the Communication and Digital Services Branch. This Branch operates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment to deliver best-practice and innovative communication and digital services across the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

This role is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of effective media strategies and tactics that increase awareness about the work of the department. This includes proactive planning of media announcements with business units, engagement with media outlets and other stakeholders, development of high-quality media releases, articles, speeches and talking points, and providing expert advice on media issues. The role also includes proactive work in relation to managing media queries and developing issues arising in the primary industries sector.

The Senior Media Officer is expected to work with a high degree of autonomy and provide support to the Media Manager and other communications staff. The nature of the position means the Senior Media Officer requires sound knowledge, skills and experience in media and communications management, preferably in a government context, as well as outstanding relationship management and teamwork capabilities. An ability to quickly comprehend complex issues and translate into clear, concise and easy to understand media content, excellent judgment, and a degree of political awareness are essential to success in the role.

Special Conditions

• Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
• Opportunity up to June 2026.
• Full time, 37.5 hours per week.

Requirements

• Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive.
• Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
• Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
• You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
• The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.

Remuneration

ASO6 - $98,478 min - $104,165 max per annum, plus superannuation
