About The Department

About The Role

The Principal Advisor Autism plays a key role in the Autism Hub's delivery of autism-specific services and expertise across Queensland. Current knowledge of state school and regional systems and processes will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities Include

The Principal Advisor, Autism Hub will:

  • Respond to incoming inquiries to the Autism Hub advisory service, ensuring that timely, consultative and evidence-informed autism-specific advice and support is provided to parents and staff from Queensland schools and other organisations.
  • Provide autism-specific support directly to regions and schools when the demand for services exceeds the capacity of regional Principal Advisors Autism.
  • Provide advice and support to schools with at-risk or critical incidents involving students with autism.
  • Collaborate with key regional staff to ensure a coordinated approach to support schools in the implementation of inclusive, evidence-based practices to meet the learning needs of students with autism and reduce practices that create barriers to access and participation.
  • Establish and cultivate effective relationships and networks with key stakeholders including school teams, parents, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coach school leadership teams to build staff capability to implement evidence-informed practices to support students with autism.
  • Deliver autism-specific professional learning for school staff, regional leaders and school communities.
  • Disseminate user friendly research to school communities, parents and external agencies on supporting students with autism.
  • Collect and share up-to-date information on programs, services and supports for students with autism.
