The Role:
We are seeking an individual with exceptional horticultural understanding, who thrives in a tight-knit team environment, who has excellent planning and organisational skills, and enjoys managing with a hands-on approach.
Reporting to the General Manager Orchards (GMO), your reliability and experience in leading an operational farm worksite are crucial, as you handle the annual orchard program of your farm.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Operational Oversight
Supervise daily orchard operations, ensuring tasks such as production systems (including PTP), pest and disease control, irrigation, and quality assurance systems are executed efficiently, and in line with established best practices and standards set by the GMO.
Team Management
Lead, train, and manage a dedicated farm crew, ensuring they are well-equipped, motivated, and workingsafely, while also addressing any on-ground concerns and facilitating clear communication between the teamand management.
Maintenance and Reporting
Regularly inspect and maintain farm equipment and infrastructure, ensuring optimal functionality. Compile andsubmit detailed weekly reports on farm activities, and any challenges faced, providing actionable insights tothe General Manager Orchards for informed decision-making.
Effi ciency and Sustainability
Embrace and champion the principles of lean, ensuring optimal use of resources and reduction of wastethroughout the orchard operations.
What We’re After:
- You will have at least 3 years’ experience in farm management roles. Orchard/Stone fruit experience ispreferred, but not essential.
- Solid understanding of natural plant cycles, and how this applies to large-scale farming operations.
- A keen ability to spot ineffi ciencies and design effective systems-based solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills – you’re as good with people as you are with plants!
- The following licenses and accreditations:
- Driver's License (HR/HC class preferred)
- Chemical accreditation (ChemCert)
- Current Frist Aid certifi cate
- Forklift License
