About the role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Finance Officer to lead the day-to-day operations of our Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions. This role is pivotal in ensuring financial accuracy, operational excellence, and outstanding customer service across the City of Hobart’s financial operations.
You will play a key role in managing payments, credit, and debt collection processes while fostering a positive and proactive team culture. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team within a values-driven organisation.
Key responsibilities of the role;
- Lead and manage the finance team, providing direction, support, and professional development.
- The daily operations of accounts payable and receivable, ensure accuracy, timeliness, and exceptional customer service.
- A team of four finance officers provides supervision, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
- The City’s payment processes, credit management, and debt collection in line with Council policy.
- The development and implementation of accounting procedures and internal controls to support continuous improvement and mitigate financial risks.
- The reconciliation and approval of general ledger accounts related to accounts payable and receivable.
- The proactive use of financial systems and data to support operational excellence and informed decision-making.

About you
Are you a seasoned finance professional with a passion for leadership and a knack for strategic financial management? Do you thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy mentoring and guiding a team? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you! Essentials for the role- A Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience supervising and developing finance teams.
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable and receivable processes in a complex organisation.
- Proficiency in financial systems (NAVision preferred) and general technology tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels.
- A proactive mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A current Driver Licence.
