About You

Local Area Coordinators (LACs) are committed to improving the lives of all people with disability aged nine and above (including their families and carers where appropriate) in empowering people to facilitate choice and control over their lives.

LACs support people in building and pursuing their goals, and in being supported both within and outside of the NDIS by working with communities and mainstream services to build awareness and capacity in becoming more inclusive of people with disability. LACs will support in information provision, undertake assessment and information, goal setting, monitoring and check-ins, plan development support, facilitate connection to supports and to develop and implement participant plans. LACs will also work with people of disability to make changes to their plans through the plan review process.

LACs deliver services which are underpinned by the continued search for better ways to include people with disability in society. LACs build relationships and connect people with disability, their families and Carers by finding practical ways of making things happen.

LACs are required to meet all contractual and internal performance KPIs including quality assurance benchmarks and standards. They deliver, timely and high-quality customer service which drives individual and community satisfaction.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications in the disability or community sector and/or lived experience or awareness of the impact of existing or acquired disability upon individuals, families, carers and the community
  • Demonstrated experience working in the human services sector e.g. disability, child services, allied health, social work, community development, education and/or relevant qualifications in training on social inclusion, community development and engagement or person-centred thinking and planning.
  • Extensive experience in supporting individuals to establish person centred support plans in a human services environment.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise across all levels both internally, externally and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Awareness and recognition of cultural diversity, including First Nations and CALD communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision, manage a variety of tasks and display personal drive and integrity.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours and in a range of locations across SSI areas and regions as required.
