Primary objective
Provide high level advice, support and coordination to ensure effective operation and delivery of the Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) and Department of Mining and Energy’s strategic objectives and priorities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level strategic advice, support and coordination to the CEO, ensuring alignment with Government and
Department strategic objectives.
2. Provide expert advice to departmental staff and external stakeholders in relation to the provision of executive administration
support and coordination, the agency’s strategic priorities, current challenges and adversities both internal and external to
the agency.
3. Drive the delivery of agreed outcomes relating to strategic projects and initiatives of the CEO and the Department.
4. Lead and manage a team to deliver high quality strategic support and advice to the CEO, Deputy CEO, agency executives
and Ministers Office, and in the development of effective work practices, processes, procedures and structures that enable
timely, quality services and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
5. Lead and coordinate the Office of the CEO’s contribution to strategic plans, annual reports and associated documents.
6. Develop and implement effective reporting systems against performance indicators and project outcomes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Strong written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong and
effective networks with a diverse range of stakeholders to achieve common organisational goals and influence outcomes.
2. High level report writing skills with the ability to accurately analyse and clearly communicate a range of governance,
administrative issues.
3. High level experience in strategic planning, research, budget management and new initiative implementation.
4. High level strategic and problem solving skills with the ability to find effective solutions to ensure organisational objectives
are met.
5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in providing executive leadership, support and advice to the executive and senior
management within the agency.
6. Proven ability to maximise personal effectiveness and experience in making sound judgements, exercise initiative, integrity,
discretion and confidentiality.
7. Strong leadership and management skills and ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in business, corporate governance or a related field.
