About the Client

About the Role
WorkPac are seeking a Principal Mining Engineer to provide strategic mine planning leadership across short, medium, and long-term horizons. The successful candidate will contribute to safety, productivity, and cost improvements, while mentoring personnel and shaping engineering frameworks across the operation. Key Responsibilities

Lead technical planning across short, medium, and long-term mine planning

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, cost, and productivity

Mentor and develop junior engineering staff and contribute to a high-performance culture

Align mine planning with real-time operational capabilities across departments

Influence the development and implementation of engineering policies and frameworks

Challenge legacy practices and introduce innovative approaches to planning

Participate regularly in site-based activities and foster team collaboration
Skills and Experience Required
-
Extensive experience in open-cut mining engineering, ideally in iron ore
-
Strong proficiency in mine planning systems and multi-horizon strategy development
-
Background in mid-tier or emerging mining companies highly desirable

Proven ability to adapt to dynamic, less structured environments

Excellent leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional communication skills

Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to work beyond a typical job description
